Beyond Mountains will launch in August, but for now, here’s a quick rundown of what the newsletter will include, and what it will avoid.
What you’ll see in the newsletter…
- Stories and detailed guides for weird and wonderful hikes throughout New England.
- Regional features that spotlight New England’s most mysterious wild territories and history-rich towns and cities.
- How-to advice on hiking in unlikely hiking venues (ex: suburban roads) and bucking the stale conventions of hiking to find an approach that works best for you.
- Essays on the community spirit of hiking, the scourge of outdoor gatekeeping, and how to make hiking more accessible for more people.
What you won’t find in the newsletter…
- Anything promoting “peak bagging,” lol.
- Me shilling for expensive outdoor gear brands.
- Characterizations of hiking as a sport of rugged individualism.
- The implication that a more difficult hike is a superior hike.
- Hiking coverage that’s limited to mountains and woods. The whole point of the newsletter is to go way beyond the conventional places where people go hiking.
