Dear Moss People,
Regretfully, while doing field reporting for what was supposed to be this week’s Mind The Moss story—a uniquely gonzo adventure involving subzero winds, dusk to dawn public transportation, roast chicken, and a Eurovision singalong (among other things)—I managed to catch COVID-19. I tested positive on Monday morning, after getting back to Boston and feeling a bit raggedy and drippy. This is my second dance with the virus and I’m relieved to report that it’s been a softer dance thus far, with a noticeably quicker progression of symptoms. But today, the fatigue phase started (this was the final phase, when I caught COVID for the first time) and in the interest of recuperating as swiftly as I can, I’m going to have to rest and delay publishing the next newsletter.
Expect that story one week from now. And for the interim, check out this New York Times story from Isabelle Taft, Stacey Solie, and Erin Trieb about the large solidarity protests that recently took place at over 145 National Park Service sites across the U.S. These protests were organized by a group called Resistance Rangers, consisting of off-duty park rangers (including some who were recently laid off by Elon Musk.) It was an escalation of the Yosemite action on El Capitan that we covered last week.
And I’m sure it’s just getting started.
In solidarity,
Miles
