If you’ve ever found yourself in the middle of a pile of damp rocks, clutching a freshly banged knee as the humidity causes perspiration to cascade through the creases of your nose, you might have thought to yourself, as sort of a gallows reassurance, “Well, at least we don’t have rattlesnakes here in New England.” If this is you, then I have to apologize in advance for this week’s newsletter. Because for the next few paragraphs, I am going to dismantle that consolation. How? By writing about the rare rattlesnakes of Vermont, and where you might just stumble across one of these snakes mid-hike.
