I agreed that Sirat was hands down the best film of 2025. I recommended it in my newsletter also but far less elegantly than you did! I do think the film absolutely needs to be seen in the theater. Love your work.

Why thank you, Alice! It was great to see that enough people showed interest in Sirat that its theatrical run in Boston lasted for more than a week. I’m guessing it will have a long life ahead in repertory screenings. I’d also love to read your review of it, if you could point me toward it.

Hi Miles! It was in the "Random Rec" of my most recent newsletter post, here is the text so you don't have to scroll:

🎬🍿 Hugh and I recently saw Sirât, which received Oscar noms for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound. It is mesmerizing. The sound and cinematography are both superb. It is a movie about a father and son who join up with a small group of Rave-goers in the Sahara. Complications ensue. Given the pulsating sound and stunning scenery, the film should be seen in the theater if at all possible.

I also blurbed all the major Oscar nominated movies in this piece (written before I saw Sirat). https://alicejmorgana2.substack.com/p/the-2025-oscars-are-coming

My newsletter is a bit scattershot, as I write about my own retirement, people who make bold midlife pivots, and Oscars/Broadway/movies. I really enjoy your writing, loved the piece on everyone shoveling snow in Boston.
