I visited Pittsburgh in my youth (2003?) as part of college tours (and because my cousin had just married into an old Pittsburgh family) and my parents and I loved it. Choosing not to go to college there is probably the major life decision I revisit the most. See if you can get your hands on some old Rick Sebak documentaries as part of your research!
Thank YOU for your efforts which have made the stairs so visible and approachable, Laura. I'd love to join one of your hikes this fall. Fully planning to return for StepTrek 2023. And I'm really glad you mentioned the potential risks of bushwhacking to stairs that have been fully overtaken by greenery. Some of these stairways still show up on AllTrails and other maps, and I flagged the one that I ended up unexpectedly bushwhacking toward. Also added a firmer disclaimer to the post dissuading people from doing this. I'll be in touch in the near future about the next visit :)
